Thanks again, as always, to my wife for this one:
“Finally brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things of good report; if there be any virtue and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
Philippians 4:8 KJV
Hidden beneath the Chihuahuan Desert in New Mexico lies one of God’s great wonders, Carlsbad Caverns. To the casual visitor its dark entrance can seem uninteresting, like the surrounding barren desert itself. Yet here is subtlety and grandeur, where over the centuries tiny drops of water, silently in the dark, built a startlingly beautiful monument forty feet high. Drop after drop, depositing particle after particle, a marble-like finger begins to grow. Ultimately, this process forms a tremendous pillar; thus, the cavern’s sculptures are created.
A similar process goes on inside each of us. As a single thought finds its way into our mind, it leaves sediment that sinks deep down within our soul, forming our own pillars – pillars of character. If we let immoral, selfish, and violent thoughts fill our minds, we form eroding pillars of evil and failure. If we fill our minds with truth and love, we form strong and beautiful pillars within our souls.
In Proverbs 23:7, King Solomon said, For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he(KJV). Solomon understood that the things we dwell on determine the person we become. When we pursue God, we begin to reflect His character in our lives.
What formed the pillars of character in your life? Do you bear any resemblance to your Heavenly Father?
You can become the person God has designed you to be by renewing your mind daily in the Word of God. Just as the Carlsbad Caverns were developed over time, hidden from view, so our own true character is built.
“I can’t go with YOU and stay where I am…”
